Send A Package To A Soldier
The soldiers who have been serving overseas have sacrificed much for their country. Those who are serving in the United States through the Marines, Army, Air Force and Navy are heroes to which we can show our appreciation. Sending packages and letters is one way to do this. Everyday items are appreciated by the soldiers. Since they sometimes can’t get their favorite foods in these countries, it’s nice to send them special treats.
Some items are not permitted to be sent to Afghanistan and Iraq. For example, no obscene items are permitted, including, articles, videotapes, films cards or prints. Because these are Islamic nations, it’s best to abide by their rules when sending items. Therefore, unauthorized political materials, anti-Islamic materials and any pork or pork by-product would be questionable. If you know the soldier that you are mailing items to, you can ask him what he would like to get and what is not permissible. It’s always best to check if you can, because some military groups have their own restrictions.
Pack your items as good as possible. You will be shipping international, so be sure and find out what you should do to make sure your package is delivered in a timely manner. Your items will be traveling halfway around the globe so be sure to pack securely so that things can’t move around in the box. There should be no open spaces in the box. Every empty space should be filled with bubble wrap, newspaper or packing peanuts. Many soldiers will read the newspapers and find out what is going on back home.
Each package must be sent to a specific soldier, which must be specified on the box. You can’t just write “to any soldier” or “to a soldier.” You must write the name, complete address, and also your name and address. It’s always a good idea to put a label on the box with the contents. That way, if the box accidentally opens, it would be easy for them to know where it needs to be delivered. Also, it’s wise to put the name and address of the soldier on a paper inside the box.
Most of these soldiers have times when they can’t talk on the phone or have access to the internet. While international package shipping is a little more difficult, it is worth the effort. They get very excited about getting a package or letter from home. It’s truly the best way to stay in touch with a soldier and remind them that you are thinking about them.
