Social Networking: A Means for Self-Promotion?

posted in Off-line Marketing |

A little while ago someone said to me “If you are not on Facebook, you fundamentally don’t even exist.” I am now beginning to trust those who say it. Social network sites give you an understanding into what your friends and work mates are doing. It is almost impossible to keep in touch otherwise.

Nevertheless, staying informed about the life of your friends and acquaintances surely is not the only purpose of such websites. Another convenience of social websites is advertising yourself and bringing in business especially if you are a real estate agent. With the increase of internet services, advertising in the newspaper or having large billboards have nearly disappeared for good. Using and promotion on the internet is now the way to move forward. If you have an internet connection, it is not impossible to come across help and recommendations on making full use of social networking.

For older individuals who were not brought up with computers, it’s tough to get used to operating computers and to find their way round websites. For the older person it is going to take time to learn, whereas kids seem to know how to do it naturally. Regardless of the obstacles we still try. Those feelings, I venture, are not just felt by me, but by lots of realtors out there.

Navigating the internet, posting on social websites and finding interesting and new things to post on our blogs is usually the last thing we want to do after a hard day at work. It evolved into a part of our daily habits. Inputting articles on our blogs and social network sites is now entertainment. But does the public really think about what we discuss? For all the effort we put into our features and posts, are only fellow realtors looking at it? Unfortunately that is not a question any of us have the solution to?

I actually do inspect the websites of my fellow real estate associates and I do read the reports they write, because the topics are of interest. For someone who is not involved in the housing market, I really couldn’t say whether these features would be of any interest. So now I don’t have to get together or talk to my co-workers often to know what is going on with their lives, I can read about it in their websites and posts. I know now more about people that I haven’t spoken to for ages due to the internet and the social network web pages. That sure is wonderful!

As a realtor I market Toronto Condos, and I found social networking to be one of the key ways of getting new leads. Therefore I hope this brief article did help you
