Ready. Set. Finance.

If you’re ready to realize your dream and head down the highway of starting your own online business, you may find some roadblocks when it comes to business start-up funding. New business start-up funding can be very difficult to acquire because many commercial banks and lenders will not even look at new business start-up unless; 1) you have plenty of money sitting and waiting in a bank account; 2) you have a long and successful business track record; and 3) you have a fat and juicy balance sheet.

Another thing to consider when looking for business start-up funding is the type of business you are trying to start. Your business idea and plan of action may or may not appeal to lending sources. When you consider small business ideas, it’s important to weigh the different types of small businesses, whether a home-based business or something more concrete, like a gift shop at the local strip mall, house painting or a small cleaning services company. Try to map out a business growth system to get you started.

The successful achievement of business start-up funding is more likely if you are providing a particularly useful or specialized skill to your customers. You will also discover that offering an essential or high-demand service such as painting, printing, cleaning, repairs and consulting backed up with a great customer after care will take you a long way towards your business becoming the winner you wish it to be. Most people are looking for a job well done on the first attempt and the costs incurred seem to take second place on their list of priorities. Practical skills like shelf building, wallpaper hanging, garden landscaping and car repairs are sought after by many and are “good to have” for consumers as well as being “good on paper” as far as applying for finance goes.

Here are a few “good to have” and “good on paper” business ventures and ideas which appear to draw more opportunities as far as financing is concerned.

Building Work
Contractors and Sub Contractors
Dental and Medical Services
Industrial Work
Legal Services
Manufacturers
Restaurants
Retail Stores
Service Contracts
Wholesale Supplies

Nonetheless, if your dream business idea does not feature on the list above, you should not be discouraged from going ahead and with your plans. There are several avenues of start-up funding available to new entrepreneurs such as personal financing, the Small Business Association, Angle Investors, and various government and outside funding organizations so all you have to do is get out there and do a little research to find the right one for you. Start with people who have already been through the process, like Rich Schefren for example, and save yourself from recreating the wheel.
