Exploring new ways of jobhunting in a bad downturn searching for employment outside of the conventional adverts

posted in Bricks and Mortar Business |

It’s a fact that today’s labour situation is the most difficult since the 1930’s, and neither is it likely to get any better within a few years. Recently I heard reported that more than 60 graduates are chasing every graduate level job, and things aren’t much more cheery for other jobseekers, either. A lot job hunters may estimate that there’s more chance of buying a winning lottery ticket than getting a job via the conventional channels. Therefore people have to experiment with less conventional methods of gaining jobs. Such methods can range from normal self-employment, access to employed posts via other ways than the job adverts, or trying out the new options to Work From Home offered by Internet Business.

It is stated by pundits that only approximately 20% of the total number of posts are in fact advertised, either in the newspapers, through recruitment agencies or the Online Jobs sites. And when you consider it this, it stands to reason. The jobs market is the one single example where the buyer places an advert. If I need to buy a car, I don’t pay for an ad in the paper saying “car wanted, estate, red or black, around £10,000”. I peruse the cars for sale in the auto sections of the local newspapers. Why is the labour market any different?

For this reason a lot of companies rely on headhunters. These are specialists who seek out potential persons for the vacancy, who may not even be seeking work. Nevertheless, if job hunters get their Curriculum Vitae posted on the Internet, they could actually be considered as a candidate by the headhunters. Job hunters are also advised to employ their networks, asking anyone of their acquaintance to listen out for any suitable vacancies.

Some consider the opportunity to Work From Home or use their own car in a variety roles. A number of these are not very remunerative. One lady I’ve heard of gets paid just £20 for placing a thousand birthday cards in their envelopes. I was once given the chance to be a self-employed courier. For thirty delivered parcels per day, they offered me not even what I’d earn for packing a thousand envelopes – and from that I would be required to pay for petrol and tax. You won’t be surprised to learn that I passed over this offer.

Even so, there are many Online Jobs that can provide a challenging and profitable opportunity. These include webmaster positions and specialisation in improving a website’s search engine ranking. Internet Business is big business, and you can do work there without leaving your place of residence.

To work in this area, it is of course necessary to have the correct skills. People will have to make the commitment to put in time and finances, paying some money for a course in the technical aspects of the web. The days are long passed when it was possible to design a web site using an introductory manual on HTML. There are numerous additional systems in use today. Online Jobs are highly specialised, expert posts. That’s why specialists having these skills can attain high pay.

One unfortunate fact is that the longer time a person stays out of work, the more difficult it’s going to be to get a job. They may become rusty in their skills and experience depression. I have found out the exasperation of applying to numerous vacancies on the Online Jobs sites, without even hoping for an acknowledgement, let alone an interview. Because of this it’s really important to leave the crowd chasing that one fifth of jobs that are advertised, and consider opportunities ’outside the box’. The fact I can now Work From Home running my own Internet Business has undoubtedly given me a new direction even though I saw few future hopes before.
