Do We Require A Government Process To provide A Solution To The Puzzle Of The Work-Life Balance? Or Is There An Easier Solution Available?

posted in Bricks and Mortar Business |

One of the developments in employment and working in recent years has been the focus on what is known as the Work-Life Balance. This has traditionally been in regard to women who go out to work and who have families where children might be of school age or below.

The equation is a fairly simple one to describe. How to try to carve out a career which may require a huge available to get the kids dressed, breakfasted and out to school, help with homework when they come home, or be there at bath-time and to read stories at bedtime. Not so simple to resolve.

And it doesn’t matter whether the woman in question is a executive, nurse or works on a factory floor, the problem is the parallel one and it is so tricky to be able to keep all obligations. Law has been enacted to attempt to make it easier to resolve by insisting on flexible working hours being available from employers and protection and equality in conditions of work for part-time staff.

One of the simplest ways to get around the problem is simply to Work From Home. Whenever possible this is the way that can make parents available for their children, and they will also benefit from not having to travel to work which makes the time available for the school run. Naturally many jobs require travel to client sites, to locations for meetings with colleagues, sales meetings and other reasons to travel that are inevitable.

However, Online jobs are meaning that far more people are able to Work From Home by applying for vacancies offered by firms engaged in Internet business which are taking advantage of the technology which allows systems to be accessed by staff across the internet. This is particularly advantageous for those with children of pre-school age as they can be around if they have a relative or other carer in to babysit the children during the day, and be totally flexible in cases of emergency and mealtimes. Sometimes the same thing!

But all this supposes that we are examining the work-life balance of women. This would be totally erroneous. The modern father is as much a part of the raising of his offspring as the mother. I well remember having furious arguments with a previous employer because planned changes to shift patterns had no option for me to be around at home for what I considered to the vital times to be with my son whose birth was due very soon and fought my situation, I was told I had to be flexible and it didn’t go down well when I questioned why it was just me that was required to be as I wasn’t a unique case and why couldn’t the employer accommodate those of us with families? There was no resolution and I left very shortly afterwards.

Having or working for an Internet business or any other kind of job for that matter which allows someone to do Online jobs means that as we go forward with technology, the movment towards people wanting to Work From Home will help settle the practicality of the work-life balance ‘organically’ for both men and women, perhaps both in a household. And all without the need for law which many times has more to do with social engineering than actually making life better.
